Happy New Year from AWP!

80367398_10156568917196389_1550900823590961152_oHello fine readers. Happy New Year from us at Adventure Worlds Press!

Together, we managed to get through a tough year and we’ll keep striving forward in 2021! We hope you had some good moments that you can hold tightly. We sure did.

While we weren’t able to attend any events for the majority of 2020, we did manage to put our collective noses to the grind stone and get some down and dirty writing done.

Christian got several short stories published in a number of collections, wrote the first draft of a literary fiction novel, and continued to edit his latest horror book.

Brittni Brinn released her latest sci-fi novella, A Place That Used to Be, and finished the first draft on her new sci-fi novel.

Ben Van Dongen finished the first draft of his own sci-fi novel and is in the middle of editing the latest book in The Synthetic Albatross series, Break/Interrupt.

120108498_4451387658266981_1926075961421334201_oWe plan on having new books to share with you this year. While it may be some time until we can have physical release parties and get out to events across the province, we will continue to work and experiment in the virtual space.

Hang in there and do what we do when things get tough. Read genre fiction (especially the quality books released by Adventure Worlds Press).

Buy Our Books!

I know that title isn’t good manners, but it’s direct and to the point! Seeing as it’s the season of spending money, we thought we would make a pitch for you to spend some of it on our fine books.

They are, as I said, fine books. Not only are the stories fantastic, but the covers are cool and the print quality is—well, it’s right up there. When it comes to print-on-demand, there isn’t a ton that any author or small press can do but hope for the best and send back anything that doesn’t meet their standards.

But that’s beside the point. Look at these awesome books! You know you want them. All that’s left is to let you know where you can get them, which I will now provide.

What’s Next from AWP?

September / October 2020

120108498_4451387658266981_1926075961421334201_oHello all. Ben here. After pushing Christian into doing monthly posts, I find that I failed to get one done for September. I had this post planned, but the proof is in the pudding and there wasn’t any (pudding or proof). I may do another post later in the month to make up for it, but I want to make sure there is something to say and I’m not pulling what I do on my other page and forcing a post when there is really no news. I believe in the advertising philosophy that an ad owes you either information or entertainment in payment for your time. And what are these posts, really, other than advertisements for us? The Newest Books from AWP!

2020 Releases 1

We here at Adventure Worlds Press have managed to have three new releases come out during the pandemic with everyone in quarantine most stores closed for much of that time. I suppose for two of them, we saw the writing on the wall and could have held back the releases, but one of them is mine (it’s Ben writing this if you couldn’t tell from reading any of my other posts) and I have a thing for schedules and rules even when they are arbitrary. My novellas come out in April because that’s when the first one came out so they all have to come out then. Therefore Broadcast Wasteland was released in April. Continue reading

Bundles are Coming!

20200408_141415We here at Adventure Worlds Press are eagerly awaiting the upcoming release from our new author partner, Brittni Brinn. Seeing as Christian recently rereleased The Space Between Houses with even more stories and Ben published the newest book in The Synthetic Albatross Series, Broadcast Wasteland, we felt that now would be a good time to come up with some book bundles and publishing packages.

We are working on the details at the moment, but imagine packages of three or four books sold together at one great price. How about the entire three part Synthetic Albatross Series? Maybe the three newest releases in one bundle? The three books of collected stories? Something else even!

20200315_183037_hdrThat’s where you come in. We can make up packages until the cows come home, but wouldn’t it be better if you told us what you want? Sure, some of them are no brainers, but from past experience, we know how easy it is to overlook things when you’re too close to it.

So, what do you say? Which books do you want to see together? We’ll put them in a bundle and set a price. Reply to this post or send us an email at AdventureWorldsPress@gmail.com.

And look for those bundles in the coming weeks!

New Books, Old Books, and a Trip

cover-finalWe’re already into March of 2020 and we here at AWP are starting to build up some steam. With the retreat behind us, we look forward to upcoming events, but even more excitingly, to the new books we have to share.

That being said, we’re pretty excited to be going to Oshawa on the 14th for their local Comic Con. We have only been north of Toronto a couple of times and this will be our first time in Oshawa. We have personal mandate to get to some new places this year and to pick up the number of events we attend. This should be a great start and we’re eager to sell some books.

Hopefully the weather will be nice enough for the trip, but not so nice that people won’t want to spend a day inside a convention cenre looking at cool things (like our books). Continue reading

It’s a New Decade (But it isn’t)

20200102_201209Hey! Welcome to 2020. How are you? We’re doing well, thanks. I know, the weather is awfully weathery, isn’t it? Did you know that, technically, a decade starts on year one? Like, 2021. That’s okay, we can do it all over again next year!

Now that we have the pleasantries aside, it’s time to look at what’s in store for the new year and AWP. Obviously, we can’t spill the beans on everything (especially since not everything has been sorted out) but we can at least give you a heads up on some things you can expect from your boys, Christian (Don’t Bother Me, I’m Working) Laforet and Ben (I need another Coffee) Van Dongen. 2019, Where did you Go?

Hello all you AWP friends. Did you know it’s already November? Did you also know that November is the second last month of the year? Somehow, the majority of 2019 is over and 2020 (a year so far in the future that at one time it was the setting for science fiction stories) is just over a month away.

There is one more events left in the year and its happening this month. On Saturday, November 23rd, Christian and Ben will be at the Tecumseh library with several other authors for a book signing event.

20191030_193239It was a lean middle of the year for events, but both Christian and Ben took advantage of it and got some good writing done. As for 2020, they have already started to reach out to their regular events to try and secure a spot, and they’re looking for new places to go throughout the year. But all that stuff is for next year. There’s still December to get through. With no events for that month, it’s going to be a frantic dash to get some projects competed (or farther along) before the end of the year. The deadline may be arbitrary and self enforced, but that doesn’t make it any less real.

Hope to see you at one or both of our upcoming events!

September Boss Rush!

maxresdefaultIt’s September (even if August was cooler than the heatwave we’re dealing with now). The summer slump is over. Christian and Ben are in the middle of a write-every-day, finish-every-project dash in an attempt to catch up for their slow (though better than average) summer. Christian has the excuse of his children being out of school, but the slacker Ben spent the entire season trying to figure out why he fails so spectacularly. (You can follow his journey on his weekly blog, you know, if you like. You may as well follow Christian too). Continue reading

July was Uncommonly Quiet

20190626_214004Hello everyone who will read this. How are you? I’m doing alright, thanks. It’s Ben, here, from Adventure Worlds. After a hectic spring where one of our authors finished a novel (and is shopping that bad boy around) and the other (me) released the second book in his novella series, things are getting a little more quiet than we are used to. With Action Comicon being cancelled, our biggest event for the month is gone. That leaves us with more free time than we’re used to. Continue reading
