Happy Halloween from Adventure Worlds Press

They say that no news is good news. They also say that there’s no such thing as bad press. We’re not sure who THEY are (we’re not even that sure if the those sayings are all that accurate).
What we do know is that the AWP authors are hard at work on their latest projects. Not that we have much to share about them.

We made an update about what we’re working on in our last post and we don’t want to just repeat ourselves. You can check it out for more details.

cover-finalOne thing that we are sure about is that we here at AWP love Halloween. This spooky, scary time is perfect for reading a good horror book like Christian Laforet’s The Space Between Houses, or a dark sci-fi story like those found in No Light Tomorrow.

We would love to try and convince you that all our books are perfect for Halloween, but while we think you’d enjoy them no matter when you read them, Brittni Brinn’s post apocalyptic Patch Project books and Ben Van Dongen’s cyber punk inspired Synthetic Albatross series just aren’t scary enough. Not in the traditional sense.

Either way, we just wanted to say that we hope everyone who takes the time to check out this website (and hopefully our books) has a Happy Halloween.80367398_10156568917196389_1550900823590961152_o

No doubt Christian will be spending his evening taking his little ones out trick-or-treating. Brittni will probably be handing out candy to the neighbourhood children. And Ben will be in the basement, hiding from the ghost that he accidentally summoned last Halloween.

Keep an eye out for some future updates on what new books will be coming out in 2022, and stay spooky!

Buy Our Books!

I know that title isn’t good manners, but it’s direct and to the point! Seeing as it’s the season of spending money, we thought we would make a pitch for you to spend some of it on our fine books.

They are, as I said, fine books. Not only are the stories fantastic, but the covers are cool and the print quality is—well, it’s right up there. When it comes to print-on-demand, there isn’t a ton that any author or small press can do but hope for the best and send back anything that doesn’t meet their standards.

But that’s beside the point. Look at these awesome books! You know you want them. All that’s left is to let you know where you can get them, which I will now provide.

AWP Book Launch 2020!

BannerDue to the world being on fire, we have missed three significant events here at AWP. Namely, the launch of Ben Van Dongen’s newest novella (in the Synthetic Albatross series), Broadcast Wasteland. The launch of Brittni Brinn’s new novel, The Place That Used To Be. And the re-release of Christian Laforet’s short story collection, The Space Between Houses.

We had intended to host a big hoopla in the fall to celebrate all three books, but due to the obvious issues, that seems unlikely to happen. Not to be deterred though, we have made the decision to bring the launch of these new releases to your digital doorstep.

This Friday, Aug 21st, all three authors will be dropping readings, behind the scenes and more on the AWP Facebook page, as well as across their own social media. It all kicks off at 10am.

The Newest Books from AWP!

2020 Releases 1

We here at Adventure Worlds Press have managed to have three new releases come out during the pandemic with everyone in quarantine most stores closed for much of that time. I suppose for two of them, we saw the writing on the wall and could have held back the releases, but one of them is mine (it’s Ben writing this if you couldn’t tell from reading any of my other posts) and I have a thing for schedules and rules even when they are arbitrary. My novellas come out in April because that’s when the first one came out so they all have to come out then. Therefore Broadcast Wasteland was released in April. Continue reading

Bundles are Coming!

20200408_141415We here at Adventure Worlds Press are eagerly awaiting the upcoming release from our new author partner, Brittni Brinn. Seeing as Christian recently rereleased The Space Between Houses with even more stories and Ben published the newest book in The Synthetic Albatross Series, Broadcast Wasteland, we felt that now would be a good time to come up with some book bundles and publishing packages.

We are working on the details at the moment, but imagine packages of three or four books sold together at one great price. How about the entire three part Synthetic Albatross Series? Maybe the three newest releases in one bundle? The three books of collected stories? Something else even!

20200315_183037_hdrThat’s where you come in. We can make up packages until the cows come home, but wouldn’t it be better if you told us what you want? Sure, some of them are no brainers, but from past experience, we know how easy it is to overlook things when you’re too close to it.

So, what do you say? Which books do you want to see together? We’ll put them in a bundle and set a price. Reply to this post or send us an email at AdventureWorldsPress@gmail.com.

And look for those bundles in the coming weeks!

New Books, Old Books, and a Trip

cover-finalWe’re already into March of 2020 and we here at AWP are starting to build up some steam. With the retreat behind us, we look forward to upcoming events, but even more excitingly, to the new books we have to share.

That being said, we’re pretty excited to be going to Oshawa on the 14th for their local Comic Con. We have only been north of Toronto a couple of times and this will be our first time in Oshawa. We have personal mandate to get to some new places this year and to pick up the number of events we attend. This should be a great start and we’re eager to sell some books.

Hopefully the weather will be nice enough for the trip, but not so nice that people won’t want to spend a day inside a convention cenre looking at cool things (like our books). Continue reading

It’s a New Decade (But it isn’t)

20200102_201209Hey! Welcome to 2020. How are you? We’re doing well, thanks. I know, the weather is awfully weathery, isn’t it? Did you know that, technically, a decade starts on year one? Like, 2021. That’s okay, we can do it all over again next year!

Now that we have the pleasantries aside, it’s time to look at what’s in store for the new year and AWP. Obviously, we can’t spill the beans on everything (especially since not everything has been sorted out) but we can at least give you a heads up on some things you can expect from your boys, Christian (Don’t Bother Me, I’m Working) Laforet and Ben (I need another Coffee) Van Dongen. September Boss Rush!

maxresdefaultIt’s September (even if August was cooler than the heatwave we’re dealing with now). The summer slump is over. Christian and Ben are in the middle of a write-every-day, finish-every-project dash in an attempt to catch up for their slow (though better than average) summer. Christian has the excuse of his children being out of school, but the slacker Ben spent the entire season trying to figure out why he fails so spectacularly. (You can follow his journey on his weekly blog, you know, if you like. You may as well follow Christian too). Continue reading

The Dale of Five Worlds – Part 7 (Conclusion)

By Christian Laforet

Sam was blindfolded. Her hands secured behind her back. After the Emperor’s men ambushed her and her companions, Felicia and Robi-Jo, at Fresh Choppers 9822, they were loaded on to a transport. She couldn’t help but wonder how the Emperor had managed to get to Hardpan. Although able to communicate across the worlds, he had, as far as she knew, not mastered the technology needed to teleport. A familiar voice answered all her questions.

“You must have known I’d figure it out.”

She tilted her head. “Professor?”

“Pahlease, I’m ten time smarter than that fool.”

“Don!” Sam’s words dripped venom.

Felicia piped in. “Hey, um, for those of us who have no freaking clue what you are talking about, how about some answers.”

Sam assumed her compatriots were secured, as she was. “The Professor was my mentor. He invented the teleportation technology that I’ve been using.”

“Huh,” Felicia said. “So, he turned traitor or something?”

Sam shook her head before remembering her friend probably couldn’t see the gesture. “No. The professor died for the cause. This is his half-wit twin brother Don.”

“Half-wit?” Don roared. “I’ve always been the smarter sibling.”

Sam laughed. “Yeah, right. You’re a lazy loser who leeched off the professor for years. I’m guessing you sold him out and stole his technology?”

Sam smiled when no reply came. Clearly she had hit the nail on the head.

Finally, the man spoke. “It doesn’t matter what you think, soon you and your friends will be dead. The Dread Rainbow Emperor will rule the multiverse and I’ll be there by his majestic side.”

Despite all her bravado, Sam felt a swell of remorse fill her. They had lost. “It’s over.” Her voice barely above a whisper, Sam shook her head. “We’ve failed. The great profit Veets was wrong, nothing can stop the Emperor.”

She felt the familiar distortion of a teleportation field wash over her.

When the blindfold was pulled from her face, Robi gasped. She expected to see anything but the sight before her. She, and the other two girls, stood in front of a massive window. The pane stretched floor to ceiling and looked out at the most gorgeous world she had ever seen. Towers of sparkling glass and ivory stood like sentinels across the landscape. Lush bunches of trees and foliage carpeted the land around them, and stretching between it all was rainbows. These were not just illusions of light like the ones she was used to either, these were physical arches which radiated glorious colour.

“Holy crap!” Felicia let out a whistle. “This place is—” Continue reading
